PHILADELPHIA (USA) - Meeting of
UMAEL Executive Committee |

The annual meeting of UMAEL Executive
Committee was held at La Salle
University of Philadelphia from November
18th to 20th, 2005. Most of the
Committee members took part to it.
During the meeting, a new solidarity
project of SECOLI was approved with the
name of HOGAR ESPERANZA, in Santiago de
Chile, by the sum of USA $ 5,000 and an
analysis was conducted on the projects
carried out up to date, which
highlighted the extremely positive
results reached.
Each Committee member widely reported
the news and the activities performed in
their respective Lasallian Regions.
Another meeting was scheduled for May,
2006 in Panama to be held between the
Bureau (Permanent Council) and the team
which organizes the IV UMAEL Congress to
be celebrated in PANAMA next year 2007.
The General Secretariate asked the
Committee to approve the joining of 8
new Former Students Associations from
different parts of the world.

It was a nice meeting the
one we held with the representatives of the
Former Students Association of Philadelphia to
whom we asked to lead the spreading of UMAEL
amongst the USA Former Students Associations (Lasallian
Region of USA-TORONTO). We also discussed all
contents of the UMAEL catalogue and reached an
agreement about the actions to be taken in the
future. |

OMAEC – LEBANON |

From November 24th to 27th,
2005, UMAEL attended the XIII Congress of OMAEC
(ORGANIZACIÓN MUNDIAL ANTIGUOS ALUMNOS DE LA
ENSEÑANZA CATOLICA) (Worldwide Organization of
Former Students of Catholic Teaching) held in
BEIRUT – LEBANON, and organized by the
Federation of Former Students of the Catholic
Teaching of Lebanon (FAEC).
The general theme of the Congress was: “Former
Students of the Catholic Teaching: Witnesses and
Agents of Development, Dialogue and Peace”.
Representatives of 17 countries, as well as
several Worldwide Associations of Former
Students took part to it.
UMAEL was represented by Mr. Antoine Chamound
and Mr. José Ramón Batiste, both members of the
Executive Committee.
On the occasion, Mrs. Rossella Laganá Mazzeo,
was appointed to be the new president for the
next three years. Mrs. Laganá, was born in Regio
Calabria (Italy) and she represents the
Worldwide Union of Former Students of Santa
Dorotea della Frasinetti. On the other hand, Mr.
Claudio Andreoli (Italy) became the new OMAEC
General Secretary. He is a Lasallian former
student and represents CONFEDEREX –Italy.
The president of UMAEL congratulated Mrs.
Rossella on behalf of all Lasallian former
students and committed himself to jointly work
in the new project of OMAEC. They will meet on
March 4th and 5th, 2006 in Paris (France) to
appoint the OMAEC Executive Committee.

RECEPTION OF THE LEBANON ASSOCIATIONS TO UMAEL |
|
Once
finished the OMAEC XIII Congress, the President
of UMAEL was invited by Mr. Antoine Chamoun, who
is the President of the Lasallian Former
Students Federation of the Near East and a
member of the UMAEL Executive Committee, to
visit the Notre Dame Association premises. There,
he had organized a warm reception with
representatives of the 3 Associations of Former
Students of the Beirut Schools, who held a
brotherly meeting with Mr. José Ramón Batiste,
and also assisted the Brothers of La Salle, who
are in best terms with the former students.
The reception was opened with the Universal
Prayer of the Lasallian Former Student and
followed by a brief explanation of the UMAEL
messages.
