A group of former De La Salle students from Urubamba has formed a special school to educate homeless children. Almost all attendees are orphans. This education is free of charge and, in addition to the program of instruction during the morning session, students are provided -based on funding possibilities - a variety of educational materials and uniforms. A great portion of the funds is utilized for the payment of the rent. This pastoral work takes place with great devotion, and is dedicated to Jesus and Saint John Baptist de La Salle.

Last June 24, at the auditorium of the UCSS, the Auxiliary Bishop of Callao, Mons. Javier Del Rio, spoke with students and faculty of the Catholic University Sedes Sapientiae, about the importance of the identity of theVolunteer work. This was done as part of the workshop about the Volunteer work, where the Monsignor is the National Coordinator. The same was done by the Coordinator of the University Circle of Studies of Public Affairs, and Professor of the Business and Comercial Science Faculty of the same University, Claudio Zegarra Arellano, who gave an interesting conference about: "Social Compromise and Citizens Participation".

The volunteer work must be an option on one's life and not, as Pope John Paul II said: "an offensive charity". The realization of this Seminar and Conference inter-universities has helped as a prelude for the next international event.- The IV International Events on Charity and Volunteer work that will be in the city of Lima, this July 18 and 19. Under the theme of "Eucharist and Charity", these events are trying toget in depth the links of both elements to incorporate them the the believer's life.

These International Events are the result of the organization of the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia (Spain), with the colaboration of the Center of Studies and Development of Callao's Archbishopship, with the help and presence of the peruvian university community.
 

In the course of the meeting of the Permanent Council of UMAEL (Bureau) a “Decalogue’ was approved for all the Federations and Association members of La Salle alumnae of the world. This “Decalogue” has already being published in the UMAEL web site. We invite all of you to read it.
